Nice to see you again in Balzac's world. About juge Popinot this is a fine stub. I could add up a few items. But you must choose which name you actually wish to keep. In Horace Bianchon and Liste alphabétique des personnages d'Honoré de Balzac, you call him Jean-Jules Popinot. Do we keep Comte Popinot? --82.123.206.36 (d) 5 septembre 2009 à 00:43 (CEST)

good to see that you are following my modest contributions :-) You are right to ask the question about the name. I would suggest to use as reference Comte Popinot since in the Cousins Pons (which I haven't read yet) he has become a comte. However, when referring in text to him, I suggest to use "Comte Popinot" only when one explicitely refers to the Popinot of the time when he is Comte, and similar for "judge Popinot". In case of the mention in the page on Bianchon I will just replace it by "Popinot" in order to make it neutral.

I'll be most happy when you may have a look at my scribblings since you seem to be very knowledgeable about the Comédie. Also, language corretion is certainly needed since I am not a native French speaker.

So I looked up the Popinots in the Index of la Pléiade (There are more than 3 pages of Popinots). It seems we have been a bit confused. In fact, the juge Popinot is really Jean-Jules Popinot, not at all Comte. The Comte will be his younger brother : Comte Anselme Popinot. So it would be better to redirect Comte Popinot to Jean-Jules Popinot again. (I am not too clever in redirect matter though)

Now, about Le Cousin Pons, it is juge Camusot who will become Comte Camusot de Marville. You will see that when you read the novel. It is wonderful. I just wonder how the translater can get away with Willem Schmucke's pronunciation.

so you had a lot to add :-) Thanks for that. I am just typing stuff as I read along in the comédie and I do not have a complete picture yet of the whole oeuvre, so what I write will often be incomplete. BTW, what is this index you mentionend? Is it in the last Pleiade volume of the comédie? So far I just have some of the lower-number volumes.

Aboute the two Popinot: It is possible to rename a page, I guess that is preferable as there arent't many references yet to that page. I will look into that later today.

You're doing fine with Balzac, and with french language too. There was very little to correct in your original text, did you realize that ?

Indeed I took my references from volume 12 of La Pléiade. There are two indexes : « fiction caracters » and « real life caracters » (such as Napoléon Ie, Cambacérès, Cuvier etc). It helps. You see, although I read l'Interdiction quite recently, I already got mixed up with the Popinots.

It is a good idea to rename the juge Popinot. Then, have a pleasant reading of Cousin Pons.
