Un borough n'est pas un comté[modifier le code]

Je rappelle quelques éléments de la page anglaise Darlington (borough) :
Darlington is a local government district and borough in North East England.
Traditionally part of County Durham, the current borough boundaries were formed on 1 April 1974 by the creation of a new non-metropolitan district of Darlington by the Local Government Act 1972, covering the previous county borough of Darlington along with nearly all of Darlington Rural District (the Newton Aycliffe parts of which went to Sedgefield). It remained part of County Durham until gaining "independence" as a unitary authority on 1 April 1997.
Donc, avant 1974, il y avait un county borough, c'est-à-dire, littéralement, un « bourg de comté » ; depuis 1974, avec l'adjonction du district rural, c'est un non-metropolitan district appelé simplement borough.
L'emploi de l'expression "comté de Darlington" n'est donc pas nécessaire, même si une unitary authority est assimilable à un comté du point de vue pratique.
