Hello, I would like to give some recomendations: 1. The 296. ID left France in February 1941, already. It was stationed in Poland at changing places, at last in the Jozefow area near Tomaszow Lubelski. 2. At the beginning of Operation Barbarossa (22.06.1941) the 296th ID was subordinated to the AOK 17 = Heeresgruppe SÜD, not Heeresgruppe MITTE, yet. The subordination to the AOK 6 (the "Stalingrad-Armee" of 1942/43) was ordered 04.07.1941, yet Heeresgruppe SÜD. 3. The last parts of the division crossed the Dnjepr river in the center of Kiev 27.09.1941 and precisely having reached the eastern bank of the river the subordination changed to the 2nd Panzergruppe (Heinz Guderian) = Heeresgruppe MITTE. From then on the division remained in the Heeresgruppe MITTE until its destruction in 1944. 4. The 296. ID fought in the Gomel area, but became destructed in the pocket of Bobruisk.

Congratulations, this French version of the unit history is much better than the German one. May 2013, Lobito54.

✔️ Done. Thanks for this recommandations. There is a lot of divisions in the history, it's difficult (missing time or/and users) to complement them all. But, time after time, it improves. Chevalier libre (d) 19 mai 2013 à 01:20 (CEST)[répondre]

--Lobito54 (d) 19 mai 2013 à 12:15 (CEST) Hello again, excellent. May I remind you that the division left France in February, 1941, not in June 1941? In my possession are copies of parts of the division's war journal, so definitively: the 296.ID was released in Dunkerque by the 267. ID , gathered in the Lille area 1st to 7th of February, 1941 and started the march to Brussels 10th of Februrary, 1941. Beginning at 25th of February, 1941 the division was transported to the east, the last train arrived in the destination area in Poland 15th of March, 1941.[répondre]

One thing might be of interest as well in this context. In Dunkerque the 296. ID was trained for the operation "Seelöwe", the invasion of England across the channel (copies of secret orders, maps etc. in my possession). After the air combat over England had ended without result in autumn 1940 Hitler decided to attack Rusia, first to solve the German crude material problem. Greetings Lobito54

Oh sorry, I forget to correct this point. Thanks again. Best regards, Chevalier libre (d) 19 mai 2013 à 22:27 (CEST)[répondre]
