“Mammoths are extinct relatives of modern day elephants. They last roamed the continent during the Pleistocene Epoch more than 15,000 years ago. This specimen is the jaw of one of these creatures. It was discovered in a gravel pit in central Indiana. The diminutive size of the jaw and teeth show that this animal was an infant.” The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, IMCPL Digital Collections
