elle a été publiée pour la première fois avant le 1er mars 1989 sans notice de copyright, ou avant 1964 sans renouvellement du copyright, ou avant que le pays d'origine n'établisse des relations en matière de droits d'auteur (en anglais) avec les États-Unis,
elle était dans le domaine public dans le pays d'origine à la date d'entrée en vigueur du traité URAA (le 1er janvier 1996 pour la plupart des pays).
